A Brief History about Asiacell:

During the period of relatively stagnant economic circumstances in Kurdistan and Iraq during 1999, Mr. Faruk Mustafa Rasool endeavored to bring the important GSM mobile telecommunications technology and services into the Iraqi nation, hence becoming the founder of Asiacell Company for Telecommunications. This mission of introducing telecommunications was in the midst of various economic sanctions and blockades by the International Community as well as the embargo of both the former Iraqi Governments. Doubtlessly, much energetic efforts were carried out to accomplish such an incredible and fantastic mission.

On 13/10/1999, Asiacell was granted a five year license from the Ministry of Communications and Transportations of Kurdistan Regional Government to operate telecommunications services.

On 06/02/2001 and during an official occasion his Excellency the president Talabani designated the company as a GSM company.
