Baghdad - February 2026
Asiacell announced a cooperation agreement with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom under the Chevening Scholarship Programme through the British Embassy in Iraq. The step reflects the commitment of both parties to supporting higher education, empowering Iraqi youth and building influential future leaders.
This partnership aims to support Iraqi students to complete their studies in the United Kingdom under the Chevening Programme; one of the oldest British government scholarship Programmes, which focuses on preparing highly qualified individuals in their home countries.
This agreement aligns with Asiacell’s vision of investing in human capital and supporting educational and developmental initiatives. The partnership represents a unique opportunity to enhance human capital, bridge skills gaps in vital disciplines, and connect Iraqi students to the global Chevening network, which includes more than 60,000 alumni across over 160 countries, including heads of state and leading experts. It also contributes to expanding academic and professional horizons for young people and strengthening cooperation between the private sector and international institutions.
Asiacell affirmed that this partnership represents a significant step towards empowering young talent and connecting them with global networks of expertise and leadership, ultimately benefiting society as a whole and its development course. Mr. Amer Al-Sunna, Managing Director of Asiacell, stated in this regard, "We at Asiacell reaffirm our commitment to supporting Iraqi talent and creating sustainable opportunities for young people. Our leading role in Iraq places us in a position of responsibility to build and support meaningful opportunities for youth, including the Chevening Programme, one of the UK's most prestigious global Programmes."
For his part, Mr. Irfan Siddiq, the British Ambassador to Iraq, added: “We are delighted to celebrate this new partnership between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, represented by the British Embassy in Iraq, and Asiacell through the Chevening Master’s Programme in the UK. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to empowering Iraqi youth and supporting the next generation of leaders. By working with Asiacell – one of Iraq’s leading companies – we are expanding opportunities for talented Iraqi students to pursue a high-quality education in the UK and join a global network of over 60,000 graduates. This partnership highlights the vital role the private sector can play in developing education, driving innovation, and strengthening human capital in Iraq. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these students will have on their communities and on the future of Iraq.”
