July 2010 – Mr. Farouk Mustafa Rasool received a letter of appreciation from the Acting Chancellor of the American University of Iraq Sulaimani (AUI-S) Mr. Joshua Mitchell for his outstanding efforts dedicated to the success and growth of the university. In his letter, Mr. Mitchell stated that Mr. Rasool’s contributions helped the university receive its accreditation from the American Academy of Liberal Education, an important national accreditation body located in Washington D.C. in the United States of America.

Mr. Mitchell went on to say that Mr. Rasool was instrumental in positioning the AUI-S as the only university in Iraq to be accredited by a U.S. higher education body.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Farouk Mustafa Rasool said: “I am proud of this letter of appreciation from the American University of Iraq Sulaimani commending our humble efforts towards supporting the university’s educational path. I am also very proud that it has received such recognition from a renowned academy responsible for awarding institutions of higher education around the globe with international accreditation according to American standards.”

He went on to say: “We will continue our efforts to support different educational organizations because of the important role they play in shaping the future of Iraq and the Iraqi people. We are hoping that such institutions will be a beacon for creating an open and innovative culture that promotes development and prosperity throughout Iraq.”

Mr. Farouk Rasool is a board member at the American University of Iraq Sulaimani which was founded in 2004 by a Board of Regents and Trustees who set out to establish a university committed to offering the first comprehensive, American-style liberal arts education in Iraq. Today, AUI-S remains dedicated to its mission of building in Iraq a leading center of learning, research, and cultural and intellectual exchange.
