There are lots of times where you might want to swap SIMs temporarily. For example, you might switch SIM when travelling to avoid roaming charges for data, calls and texts.
Granted, it’s pretty simple to do this by swapping one traditional SIM for another one. But eSIMs technically make the process even easier. Rather than buying a new SIM and swapping it, you can simply go online to switch to a new network. You can usually do this by scanning a QR code with your phone’s camera.
Many – but not all – phones with this new technology allow you to have multiple mobile networks on one eSIM, too. So they’re suitable for dual-SIM users and people who flip between multiple networks in the day-to-day. (You can only use one network at a time.)
Even if a phone doesn’t support multiple eSIM profiles, the phone might have both an eSIM and space for a traditional SIM. So, in this respect, it’d still be a dual SIM phone.
